Amazon.co.uk Review
Rush Hour Junior is the only time when it's fun (and safe) to play in traffic. The puzzle is designed for solo play for children aged from 6-8 years. The game comes complete with a Traffic grid, 16 brightly coloured vehicle pieces in various shapes and sizes (including your ice cream truck), 40 challenge cards and a travel bag.

Playing the game is really easy; players choose one of the challenge cards and moves all the traffic pieces off the grid. Next, they replace some of the pieces--cars, trucks and buses--to match the drawing on the challenge card, making sure they are all placed in the correct position. Whatever card you choose, your ice cream truck will always be in the same row as the exit on the traffic grid. Your task is to move the other cars, trucks and so on, out of the way so that your ice cream truck can escape.

There's only one rule--you can't take pieces off the traffic grid. Like real cars, you can only move them forwards or backwards. You win your challenge when your ice cream truck can slide out of the exit on the traffic grid. If you get really stuck in a jam, you can start again, or you have a quick peek at the answer on the reverse side of your challenge card.

There are four levels of difficulty:

  • One scoop of ice cream for Beginners
  • Two scoops of ice cream for Intermediates
  • Hot Fudge Sundae means you have reached Advanced Level
  • Banana Split means you're an expert

This game is great for long journeys and easy to pack in a travel bag. --Ben King

Also available for older players: Rush Hour and Rush Hour Safari.

5 out of 5 stars Buy it!   April 21, 2010

A fantastic toy. My 5 year old daughter plays it all the time and I'll now be buying it for her friends' forthcoming birthdays. It is thoughtfully sold with a carry bag so you can take it away at weekends and there is less chance of losing pieces. Inventive and challenging while also fun.

Great! Our 4 year-old loved it instantly and becomes absorbed in it. I can't think of another game that's such a good introduction to this sort of spacial forward thinking and experimentation. A year on we have bought the safari version for xmas.

5 out of 5 stars A great alternative to computer games!   November 29, 2009

This game has kept my son and the rest of the family occupied for hours. Its a great alternative to computer games, helps with concentration and logic skills and the rules are really easy to understand. My son had this when he was 6yrs old, he is 8 yrs now and enjoys it so much we have ordered the next version as well.

5 out of 5 stars Why didn't I think of this?!   January 12, 2009

This is one of those games I wish I'd invented! It's so simple and yet so very addictive, a kind of pre-chess strategy puzzle. We bought this as a gift for our 3-year-old, despite the 6-8 guidance, as he is really into anything transport-related and enjoys handling small toys which seem more readily available and directed towards girls (Polly Pockets etc.). I really didn't expect him to grasp the concept of the game. The game is firstly to copy a chosen card (which are graded) by placing the plastic vehicles on a small board in the same places as shown on the card. This in itself is a great game for a small child. Then the idea is to move the vehicles around in order to create an open exit for the 'ice cream van'. Within two moves our son had it, and an hour later was still engrossed, and loved showing our 8-year-old the 'rules'! I am ashamed to admit that I tried an 'advanced' card and really was challenged (I'll not be onwing up to how long it took me!) It comes with a great pouch which is perfect for taking out in the car and restaurants etc. My only suggestion to the company would be to make a wooden version as it seems to lend itself perfectly, though I have little crticism of this plastic version, it's bright, sturdy and attractive. It's no wonder it's the company's most successful product!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   February 12, 2008

I asked for this for my daughter for Christmas after seeing good reviews on Amazon. I wasn't disappointed. This game is advertised from 6-8 which personally I think is slightly too old. My daughter is almost 5 and was hooked right from the beginning. She spent an hour or more working her way through the cards - and she was much less inclined to give up than I was! Since then this is a game she returns to over and over again and I am definitely planning to take it with us on a long haul flight later in the year. Some of the cards are too hard for her at the moment but I'm sure she'll grow into them in the next year or so. This is a very educational game - encouraging them to think around a problem and also increasing spacial intelligence - but fun at the same time. My 3 year old son also loves it and is almost as good as his sister. I will definitely be buying the older (8-adult) version at some time.
