As a first generation product, it shows potentials. But it still needs lots of improvement to gain wider acceptance among consumers. I like the form factor and the fact that it runs a full desktop Win 7 OS. However, the following are what I would like to see Archos to improve on, hopefully with a follow-up 2nd gen product:
1. Dual-core ATOM CPU
2. Better graphics hardware
3. 2GB RAM minimum
4. Bigger hard drive (160 GB minimum) or SSD drive option
5. 1280x720 display resolution
6. Integrated DVB-T TV and DAB+ Radio tuners
7. Windows 7 Home Premium
With all the above, it would be an ideal tablet PC for the market.

Ok this is a good tablet pc, but it can be very slow which brings its appeal down quite a bit.
Don't buy this if you want to run lots of programs. I only recommend this to people who would just use it for browsing the net.
The touch screen is good but no multi touch here so iphone and ipad users wont like this.
So I give this a 4 out of 10. Its very good but lets itself down in areas other products wont.

Archos 9 8.9 inch Tablet PC (Atom Z515 1.2 GHz, 1Gb, 60Gb, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Win 7 Starter (Black)) Please note the headline specification is for a unit with 1.2Ghz Z515 processor. The detail lower down the page indicates unit is 1.1Ghz Z510 (old) specification which - as confirmed by many reviews around the internet - doesn't work very well. My wife bought one via Amazon reseller and the lower spec unit was delivered. Now undergoing major palava to get the unit returned & refund organised. Aaaaargh!!!!!

I haven't bought one of these so I'm not in a position to criticise but I do have the Archos 6 and it always struck me how slow it was. Reading the reviews here I'm not surprised and really glad I never bought one. The iPad looks tempting though . . .

Love all things Archos and the 9 did not disapoint. The 7 and 5 are better media players but if you value the Internet experience this may be for you.
Boot is no slower than you would expect for a device running windows and the touch screen is responsive. All in all a stunning piece of kit and I am already the envy of the non ipad toting office dwellers.
Only real gripe is the lack of an accellerometer. Very last year.
