5 out of 5 stars nice   September 7, 2010

This is a lovely laptop. I bought it for processing photos, and needed something that would run Photoshop CS3 without effort, using very large RAW files. It has so far run smoothly, even when having CS3 and other photo utilities running at once. I've not tried how long the battery runs for, since it says up to 6 hours, as if out, will use my daughters' netbook, as it's much easier to take on the train and carry around than a 17" laptop. That said, it is lighter than the previous 17" laptop we have. The monitor is splendid, and not as refelective as the previous one either, that one being near impossible to see in daylight, as all you'd see is your reflection! The inbuilt card reader is convenient, albeit, for my photography I use mainly compactflash, which it doesn't take. I'm definitely happy with the purchase!

Having had this laptop for only a few weeks this can only be a short-term revue. This is the third HP computer we have had. My earlier desktop ran without bother for five years, except for the impact of the poor Windows software - Windows XP-SP3 - with its poorly designed registry. My Wife has a Compaq Presario CQ61. Both laptops were installed and loaded with the required software without incident. Both have been linked to a router. For the present the CQ71 handles large graphic files with ease, I am a keen photographer, and linked to a second, larger and old, HP monitor for use with Adobe software.

But:
both have additional and unwanted "taskbars" at the top of the screen
both have high gloss screens that reflect ambient light. The subsequent reflections hinder use of the screens; the lighting has to be carefully placed
the CQ71 has a "fn" key that has to be carefully pressed for it to work. Maybe the contact is off centre
the black glossy finish shows finger marks; this may bother some people, but not me.
with its larger screen the CQ71 is not that easy to carry, but I prefer the larger screen

As for long-term reliability, we have yet to learn

5 out of 5 stars excellent laptop   September 2, 2010

At this price we have got a fabulous laptop. the mouse is so easy to use, much better than others tried. The picture quality is great but one thing i will say is the sound, it is quite poor it does not go as loud as my daughters laptop. But overall we are very happy with our purchase and would highly recommend it. If you want to listen to loud music through it then just put it through speakers.

5 out of 5 stars HP Presario - superb laptop   September 2, 2010

Having had to return not one but two Samsung laptops I bought the presario and found it to be better equipped AND cheaper. I unequivocally recommend this product. It worked immediately with the wireless router - a factor I wasted at least ten days trying to sort out with the second samsung - and seems to have more and interesting software, a larger hard drive, is very easy to use. I was very unhappy and inconvenienced with the Samsung problems but found the Amazon system of returns to be very helpful and effective, the parcel delivery systems were definitely not so helpful.
