Having worked for years with MUCH more expensive editors
I was quite amazed at the versatility, quality and ease
with which I was able to use this Inexpensive piece of
kit to output professional work!

1 out of 5 stars I f you are editing in HD do not buy   August 23, 2010

Sony Movie studio HD 10 is fine if you are editing low quality .avi files and low pixel stills but if you are using HD or high def stills it will not render more than about 3 minutes of edited even with a fast 32bit processor and 2 GB ram. The same thing seems to happen with Adobe Premiere Elements8 except with that program it just crashes . It took me many frustrating months and much wasted money before coming to this conclusion. The problem for both of these cheaper packages it that they are only 32bit programs. What you need for HD is a 64bit fast computer with about 6GB Ram and either Sony Vegas Pro or Adobe Premiere CS3 or later. Believe me this is the best advice I can offer.
Sony however have a vastly superior help service and because of this I have bought Sony Vegas Pro 64bit and am well pleased.

5 out of 5 stars Making the picture grow   August 23, 2010

This is an excellent product that has added to my ability to make the most out of my video collection.
I particularly like the feature that enables a portion of the orginal to be enlarged and exploded full screen - really impressive making it appear as though the material was shot on several cameras at the same time.
Haven't yet mastered how it stops blur as claimed in the advertising - but that may be because I'm a bloke and don't read instructions!!
Altogether a better product than the Pinnacle programme I used until now.

5 out of 5 stars Hi Def for the masses   August 21, 2010
P. L. Allum (UK)
Had played around with version 9 of this program (trial) and was deciding whether to buy or not. Glad I didn't, this version (10) is a complete suite is fantastic. I wanted it for High Def from a Panasonic Video Camera (AVCHD) and it works flawlessly. It's rock stable, DVD Architech is included plus Audio Studio, what more do you need. I already had Sony Cinescore and this integrates seemlessly into it. Admittantly in Hi Def it can take a while to render but the results are incredible. Even if you down render to DVD quality I found the results to be a higher quality than if I had recorded at DVD quality, so I film everything in Hi Def regardless whether I need hi Def or not. The price is a steal, would thoroughly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product, Great Price, big learning curve...   August 17, 2010
Nycoy (UK)
This product is a bargain. I have been out of the loop for a few years in terms of video editing due to having had kids... I used to use Ulead Media Studio Pro which I used to love. (I've not even tried to reinstall this ni Windows 7...)

This product is a little different in terms of layout and operation so it is taking some time to learn. But as a "basic" product it seems to do everything I need. The keyframing is a little tricky to get to grips with (compared to Ulead's product anyway) and a few other areas are still bugging me. But it includes Sound Forge too, which is great for creating loops from existing tracks. It wrote first time to a Maxell rewritable Blu Ray (although I had to format the disc first - I don't remember EVER having to format a DVD rewritable disc??).

I really don't know how Sony can make a product with all these features at such a good price. As I was used to a different product with a different look and feel, I would hope that someone coming to video editing without a prior product experience would probably pick this up faster than I have done, in which case I can't recommend this enough!
