 A TV to recommend September 3, 2010

We have always been pleased with Sony Products and this TV was no exception.
It has easy to use controls, very clear picture and is of a good appearance.
The service from Amazon exceeded our expectations, three days from ordering to being delivered.

When we took delivery of this television we had high hopes for it: it looked great with no obvious damage and at a good price too. Unfortunately, when we switched it on it became apparent that it was not fit for purpose- there were just lines on the screen (no picture) and there was no sound at all. So, it's gone straight back to Amazon via DHL.
We've usually been more than happy with our Amazon and/or Sony purchases and can only hope that this was a one off, but we're now having to wait for a refund before buying another television, which is irritating, as there was no option for a replacement.

Arrived within a couple of days of ordering.
Excellent quality picture and sound, and very easy to use. V. good features. Had problem getting it to sync with my Sony hard drive recorder but got very fast and helpful support by email explaining how to do it.
2 slight irritations:
1 Takes a while to work when you switch set on because Sony logo appears for few seconds: flashy but entirely unnecessary.
2 When you change channel an information bar appears at top of screen, cutting off top 15% of picture and seems to remain for quite a while.

I use cable mainly, but Freeview also looks good on this set, and I haven't got a fancy new aerial. The black surround matches the screen background colour when watching cinemascope, so you are less aware of the banding effect. I upgraded from a 26inch CRT Sony, and the visual effect makes the new set look much smaller than the previous one. I could have lived comfortably with a set several inches larger, but they didn't get such good reviews (and the wife would have killed me). It may be that my old eyes cannot differentiate, but there seems to be no difference between HD and the normal channel pictures, which are excellent.

Not a lot to say, we only use this with a BluRay player, the picture is very good, nice colour etc. The start-up time for this TV is a little slow, but I can't find any other issues, especially at this price.
